Mirjam Widmann is a visual artist based in Stuttgart, Germany.
Between 2008 and 2014 she studied Fine Art at the State Academy Stuttgart, Germany with Prof. Andreas Opiolka, Prof. Volker Lang and Prof. Reto Boller.
Parallel to that she studied English Linguistics and Literature at the University Stuttgart (2011-2015).
In 2012-13 an Erasmus scholarship brought her to the College of Art, Edinburgh, Scotland.
Her work often starts with observations of materials, grids used in architecture, industrial productions, perspective views, networks, the rhythm of a facade or the pattern of tiles. With the shape clearly defined, the material develops its own dynamics and always resists to be a simple repetition. It is an attempt to create balance through a disruption, that contrasts the foregoing but never looses sight of it either.
This translated to space means to perceive architecture as a composition of a multitude of rhythms. Mirjam Widmann’s work analyses formal structures in space. Concepts are developed and connected through subjective physical experiences in space. A balance is created that underlines the given harmony by disrupting it.
